BelGaN ceased operations in July 2024. As a result, 417 employees lost their jobs and unemployment increased by around 9% in the region concerned. Belgium's application submitted in February 2025 led to a proposal for support from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund.

Of the total cost of €1.1 million, 85% (€930 000) will be covered by the EGF and 15% (€170 000) by Belgian resources. The assistance will cover counselling, retraining, labour market orientation and other measures for reintegration into employment.
