A call to strengthen the EU's security and defence strategy

The European Parliament today adopted a resolution calling for a stronger defence strategy and less dependence on third countries. MEPs stress the need for more funding for defence projects, faster delivery of weapons to Ukraine and preparations for conflicts that would correspond to realistic war scenarios.
Parliament also calls for better coordination between Member States and investment in modern technologies, including cyber security. It also stresses the need for greater European autonomy in the field of defence, without weakening transatlantic cooperation.
The European Commission should now propose concrete steps to strengthen the EU's defence capabilities. The resolution sends a clear signal that Europe must be able to respond effectively to growing security threats.
