The Left's proposal on the EU's response and preparedness to Trump's tariffs on the European car industry

The European Parliament today failed to pass a motion by the Left Group (The Left) during the adoption of the agenda for plenary week. The motion called for the European Commission to provide a detailed statement on the European Union's preparedness and response to the planned 25% tariffs on US car imports announced by President Donald Trump's administration with effect from 2 April 2025.
The tariffs are expected to hit German car companies, which have a strong presence in the US market, the hardest. This could also have a negative impact on Czech suppliers of automotive components, which are key sub-suppliers for these German manufacturers.
Although the European Parliament rejected the Left's proposal, the European Commission said it was ready to react "decisively and immediately" to the introduction of US tariffs.
