In its first resolution of the new term, the European Parliament reaffirmed the EU's commitment to support Ukraine in its efforts to preserve its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. MEPs stressed that support should continue for as long as needed, in all necessary forms, including political, financial, humanitarian and military assistance.

The resolution also calls for the maintenance and extension of sanctions against Russia and Belarus, urging the EU to actively prevent the circumvention of these sanctions by third parties. Parliament also supports the confiscation of frozen Russian state assets in the EU and their use for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

MEPs condemned the recent visit to Moscow by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which they described as a flagrant violation of EU treaties and the principle of sincere cooperation. The move, they said, undermines the EU's united foreign policy towards Russia.

Parliament also expressed its support for Ukraine's membership of NATO and called on EU Member States to increase military aid to Ukraine. MEPs call on the European Commission to propose long-term financial assistance for the reconstruction of the war-stricken country.
