The European Parliament votes in favour of a second European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen. She has received support for another five-year term, during which she plans to continue strengthening the EU's competitiveness, green transformation and support for Ukraine.

During the approval process, MEPs emphasised the balanced representation of member states and the professional quality of each commissioner. In her speech, Von der Leyen stressed that her team would focus on the EU's strategic autonomy, security issues and strengthening the single market.

Although the new Commission has received the necessary support, some factions have expressed concern about continuing on the current course. Criticism has focused in particular on economic policy and the way the EU is responding to global challenges, including relations with China and the US. The European Parliament will continue to oversee the implementation of the new Commission's programme priorities.
