European Parliament condemns violence and sex crimes in Sudan

The European Parliament strongly condemned the escalating violence in Sudan, where armed groups are terrorising civilians. MEPs warn that massive human rights violations, including sexual violence and forced displacement, require an immediate response from the international community.
MEPs call on the EU to impose targeted sanctions on key individuals responsible for war crimes and to support the investigation of these crimes by the International Criminal Court. They also call on the UN and the African Union to get involved in the protection of civilians.
The European Commission should now urgently step up humanitarian aid and put more diplomatic pressure on the Sudanese leadership to stop the violence and allow humanitarian organisations access to the worst affected areas.
