Resolution on strengthening Moldova's resilience to Russian interference ahead of the upcoming presidential elections

The European Parliament today expressed its concern about the growing Russian interference in Moldova's internal affairs. According to the resolution adopted, Moscow is supporting disinformation campaigns, cyber-attacks and pro-Russian political actors in order to weaken the government and halt the country's European path.
MEPs called for the extension of the EU sanctions list to include persons and organisations responsible for destabilising activities. They also call for more support for Moldova in the areas of security, energy and economic stability so that the country can better defend itself against external threats.
The European Parliament also praised the Moldovan government's efforts to reform and fight corruption, which are key to its progress towards European Union membership. MEPs stressed that the EU must continue to support Moldova's democratic institutions and civil society.
