Resolution on the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan

The European Parliament adopts a resolution calling for a fair distribution of financial responsibility in the fight against climate change. MEPs demand that not only rich countries, but also major polluters and emerging economies such as China and India should shoulder their share of responsibility and contribute to the global climate fund.
In view of the upcoming COP29 climate conference, MEPs stressed that current commitments are not sufficient and that international climate finance needs to be strengthened. They also called on the European Union to take a firm stance in the negotiations and to push for more ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The European Parliament also drew attention to the need to ensure sufficient support for developing countries most affected by climate change. MEPs are calling for more effective funding mechanisms to ensure that the money actually helps the most vulnerable regions and supports the transition to sustainable technologies.
