Resolution on the democratic crisis in Georgia following the recent parliamentary elections and allegations of electoral fraud

The European Parliament adopts a resolution criticising the deteriorating state of democracy in Georgia. MEPs expressed concern about the growing pressure on the opposition, independent media and civil society, which they said threatens the rule of law and the country's European future.
The resolution highlights the disproportionate crackdown on pro-democracy activists and opposition politicians, who are being criminalised and intimidated by the Georgian government. MEPs have warned that these actions are diverting Georgia away from its pro-European direction and moving it closer to authoritarian practices.
Parliament therefore called for new, free and fair elections to restore citizens' confidence in democratic institutions. It also called on the European Commission to consider measures, including the suspension of financial aid to the Georgian Government, if the situation does not improve.
